Soft enamel vs hard enamel
Soft enamel has recessed colour that sits slightly below the raised metal lines, giving a textured, tactile finish at a lower cost. Hard enamel is filled level and polished flat, so it feels smooth and more premium and stands up better to wear. Both use the same custom die — the difference is the fill and finish.
Die-struck and printed options
Die-struck pins are stamped from metal with no colour fill — just polished or antiqued metal, ideal for a subtle, classic crest. Printed (offset) pins reproduce full-colour artwork, gradients and fine detail under a protective epoxy dome, which suits complex logos that enamel colours can't hold.
Getting the size and detail right
Most lapel pins sit between roughly 20mm and 40mm. Very fine text or thin lines can be lost at pin size, so simplifying a busy logo often reads better. Send your artwork and we'll advise on the smallest size that still holds your detail cleanly.
Backings and colour matching
Common backings are butterfly (clutch), rubber clutch, magnetic (no pinhole in the garment) and safety-pin. For brand consistency, enamel colours are mixed to your specified shades rather than left approximate, so share your colour references with the order.
